Licks are like little chicken nuggets of goodness that come from a great musical idea. You need to learn to make small changes to your guitar licks. The licks that you already know, also have a separate value of their own that most players don’t recognize. When you know a song from beginning to end you have something that people want, which you can also learn from. I try to teach my students about how valuable a song is. And you can start learning the tools to become more creative today. This is something you can start doing at whatever stage of guitar you are in. If you are new to guitar, pay special attention to this topic. Well, with a few easy-to-perform changes to these little musical ideas, you can create unlimited musical statements that sound like YOU, and who knows, you just might stumble upon your own signature lick. “What, why would I want to play those? That can be a lot of music and if you improvise your solos, you can run out of ideas very quickly. Typically you start around 8 or 9 pm with your first set and maybe play two more until closing time.
